Outpatient Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging Services - Excela Health QuikDRAW and QuikDRAW PLUS

Through a combination of state-of-the-art technologies and attention to patient care and comfort, our highly skilled, professional staff provide a range of services in outpatient settings.

Regardless of where you receive imaging services at Excela Health, our radiologists and other physicians are connected across our campuses by the latest PACS system - a means of reviewing and comparing patient images electronically without having to transport films from site to site, saving time and adding convenience for our patients.  And, with the same radiology group serving our hospitals, you’ll find the same high quality and standards of care at each site.

Excela Health Diagnostic Testing Services

QuikDRAW PLUS centers offer complete laboratory, x-ray, EKG and pre-admission testing. QuikDRAW locations offer laboratory testing only. One-hour Glucose Tolerance Tests may be performed at any location. Three-hour Glucose Tolerance Tests are performed at Frick, Latrobe and Westmoreland hospital campuses only.

No appointments necessary for laboratory testing and diagnostic radiology. Just bring your doctor’s order to any of our convenient locations.

Laboratory Testing

We have the capability to perform a multitude of laboratory testing including blood chemistry, hematology, microbiology and cytology. Blood testing is an important tool in aiding a physician in making a diagnosis. Blood tests can tell a great deal about a person’s present health and the possibility for a wide range of conditions such as diabetes, heart, thyroid, liver or kidney problems.

Routine Diagnostic Radiology

Non-invasive x-rays used to get visual information about body structures. Diagnostic x-rays look at body parts such as bones and lungs. Other x-rays, such as upper GI series, barium enema, and intravenus pyelogram (IVP) are performed using a contrast media to help outline some of the organs so they can be visualized on the xrays.

CT Scanning

A quick and painless procedure, computed tomography or CT scanning utilizes special x-ray equipment to produce multiple, two-dimensional image “slices” of internal body structures such as the chest and abdomen.  CT is also used to detect various cancers, stroke, kidney stones and vascular diseases, among others.   Additionally, Excela Health boasts two state-of-the-art 64-slice CT scanners for highly detailed, three-dimensional images of the heart, brain and other organs.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging or MRI

Using a magnetic field and radio frequency pulses to gain images, MRI is simple and painless, with no advance preparations necessary.

At Excela Health, we offer

  • Traditional MRI
  • Wide-bore MRI with a larger opening for greater patient comfort
  • Open MRI
  • Breast MRI

Mammography

A safe, specific type of imaging using a low-dose x-ray to examine the breasts.  Private, comfortable settings are located at our hospitals orseveral outpatient locations.

We perform:

  • Screening mammography
  • Diagnostic mammography
  • Breast ultrasound
  • Stereotactic breast biopsy
  • Bone density screening is also available at our hospital campuses.

Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear medicine is a means of showing physical functioning of various organs and body parts using an imaging device, most commonly a gamma camera.  Our dual head gamma cameras allow for quicker scanning and greater patient comfort while performing bone scans; looking at lung, liver and gallbladder function; measuring thyroid function, and much more.

PET-CT Scanning

Keeping abreast with the most recent advances in imaging technologies, Excela Health offers PET-CT scanning.  A nuclear medicine procedure, PET scanning produces images of particular biological functions and can detect small cancers.  PET-CT fusion combines the cellular imaging capability of the PET scan with the structural imaging ability of the CT scan, providing the highest degree of accuracy available in cancer imaging, neurological and heart studies.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a valuable method of imaging the body using sound waves. We use real time imaging with three-dimensional capabilities, which allows for proper analysis of the various internal organs. Ultrasound also can be used for scanning the abdomen, OB/Gyn studies (for fetal heartbeat and anatomy), and evaluation of thyroid, breast and testicles.  We also utilize Doppler Ultrasound for evaluation of the heart, heart valves and major vessels including the carotid artery for blockage. Doppler studies also detect DVT (deep vein thrombosis) or blood clots.

Interventional Radiology

This newest area of radiology allows radiologists to specialize in minimally invasive, targeted treatments using image guidance that in particular instances, replaces the need for open surgery.  Since there are no large incisions, there is less pain, less risk and shorter recovery time for many patients.   Some common procedures include angiography; kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty; venous ablation; vein thrombolysis; uterine fibroid embolization, and more.
